Alfred Kotey Ashie Wins NDC Odododiodioo Parliamentary Primary

Published:

Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie has been elected as the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Odododiodioo constituency in the upcoming 2024 General Elections. Ashie secured 1209 votes, defeating his contender Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea, who garnered 952 votes out of a total of 2161 votes cast.

Over 2100 NDC delegates from the Odododiodioo constituency in the Greater Accra Region participated in the election, which had been delayed due to an injunction filed by disqualified parliamentary aspirant Michael Nii Yarboi Anan. The election proceeded following the dismissal of Anan’s interlocutory injunction application.

Addressing delegates after his victory, Ashie pledged to work towards uniting the party ahead of the December polls.

In November 2023, the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC disqualified Michael Nii Yarboi Annan from contesting in the parliamentary election in the Odododiodioo Constituency.

The disqualification was based on findings by a special committee, which concluded that Annan did not meet the qualification criteria specified in the NDC Constitution. The party had initially postponed the primary indefinitely due to a court injunction obtained by the disqualified candidate, but after the court’s dismissal, the election proceeded.
