Published:

Yesterday, February 9, the Manhyia Palace hosted a solemn commemoration durbar for the Sagrenti War, with the distinguished presence of Nana Hemaa Konadu Yiadom III, the Queen of the Asante Kingdom.

Arriving in traditional splendour, the 90-year-old Queen was carried on a palanquin, captivating all with her majestic aura. The ceremony, marked by reverent royal dances, saw her paying homage to her younger brother, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

Lady Julia Osei Tutu, wife to the Monarch, also graced the occasion, adding to the regal ambiance.

Attendees, attired in somber black attire, honored the theme of the durbar, “Kuntunkuni,” commemorating the Sagrenti War of 1784, a historical conflict that witnessed the devastation of Kumasi and the loss of many Asante warriors.
