Unidentified culprits have vandalized and stolen copper windings from a 200kVA transformer belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd (ECG). The incident occurred during the early hours of Friday, February 2, 2024.
As reported by ECG, the 200kVA transformer, which provided service to residents of Nkumkrom in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality, was forcefully taken down from its pole mount. This act resulted in a power outage affecting the entire community, and the estimated cost of the stolen transformer is Gh¢ 80,000.00.
Expressing concern over the incident, Mr. Emmanuel Ankrah, the Acting General Manager of the Accra West Region, called on communities to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities around ECG installations.
“All electrical equipment we have installed in communities are for the benefit of the community, and so we all have to show greater care so that a few miscreants do not deny us of the benefits of these investments,” he emphasized.
The statement from ECG confirmed that the company had reported the incident to the police, and investigations were currently underway.
