Ex GFA Prez Nyantakyi eyes NPP candidacy in upcoming Ejisu by-election

Published:

Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has declared that he will run for the NPP in the impending Ejisu by-election.

According to reports, Nyantakyi is finishing up the documents he needs to submit his candidacy to the NPP.

The passing of John Kumah has left a void in parliament as well as in his area. A by-election to select a substitute to represent the constituency in Parliament is anticipated to be conducted by the Electoral Commission.

According to his wife, Hon. Kumah battled a terminal disease until passing away on Thursday, February 7, 2024.

The 45-year-old, who had no opposition in his party’s primary earlier this year, was getting ready to run for a second term in parliament.

Nyantakyi has been a strong contender for the job, despite rumors that Kumah’s widow would be given consideration. It is becoming a norm in Ghana for a wife to replace a deceased wife who dies.

Nyantakyi, who has stated that he is willing to represent the party in Parliament, is awaiting elder permission from the NPP.

The 2018 documentary Number 12 featured Kwesi Nyantakyi accepting financial gifts and selling influence.

The documentary named 77 additional football officials and referees and exposed egregious corruption in Ghanaian football.
