In a shocking incident in Dzuefe-Hamekpoe, a farming community in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region, Afealete Dzreke, a fetish priest in his 50s, is accused of fatally shooting and burying his 34-year-old son, Lawson Agbenyega Dzreke, also known as ‘Hunor Akpatogui.’
The gruesome event unfolded after an alleged altercation between the suspect and the deceased on Thursday, February 1, leading to the fatal shooting. The victim was later reportedly buried in a nearby bush by his father.
The news sent shockwaves through the community, leaving residents stunned. Mr. Selorm Bright Gligui, the local Assembly member, expressed the community’s collective disbelief over the discovery of the buried body.
Upon the alarming discovery, local authorities promptly informed the Akatsi police on Sunday, February 4. As a result, the suspect, Afealete Dzreke, popularly known as ‘Hunor Akpatogui,’ is currently in police custody undergoing further investigations.
Eyewitnesses corroborated the suspicion of a prior disagreement between father and son, raising questions about the motive behind the heinous act.
Chief Superintendent Isaac Baah, the Akatsi South Municipal Police Commander, confirmed the tragic incident, assuring that more details on the crime would be provided at a later time.
The police are set to exhumate the deceased’s body on Monday, February 5, following due processes. This step is crucial for the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crime.
Lawson Agbenyega Dzreke, the victim, was married and leaves behind three children.
