GFA must declare stance on LGBTQ in football

Published:

The Executive Secretary of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, Moses Foh-Amoaning, has called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to address the LGBTQ+ community’s presence in sports.

Expressing his concerns, Foh-Amoaning pointed out instances where individuals are seeking to participate in sports contrary to their gender identity.

He cited an example in women’s football, mentioning a man named Mohammed Polo who expressed a desire to play for a women’s team.

Foh-Amoaning emphasized the need for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and CAF to formulate a response to the LGBTQ+ community’s involvement in sports, stating, “The whole GFA and CAF must devise a response to this LGBT because it has already arrived in sports.”

Reflecting on the increased advocacy for the legalization of homosexual activities in Ghana, Foh-Amoaning highlighted the community’s efforts, including the opening of an office in Accra in 2021. However, the Ghana Police Service closed down the office due to public backlash, leading to arrests of individuals promoting LGBT activities.

Currently, an anti-gay bill is under consideration in Ghana’s parliament, aiming to criminalize various forms of homosexual activities in the country.
