Govt must compensate Domelevo for public disgrace

Published:

Richard Kasu, the Executive Director of Community Focus Foundation Ghana (CFF-Ghana), has called on the Government of Ghana to provide compensation to former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo. This appeal follows the Supreme Court’s ruling on May 31, 2023, which declared President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive for Domelevo to take leave in 2020 as unconstitutional.

In an interview with Oyerepa TV’s Bernard K Dadzie monitored by newsandvibes, com, Kasu expressed disappointment with the court’s decision, stressing the need for Domelevo to receive compensation for the ordeal he endured.

Kasu criticized the forced leave directive, alleging it to be a politically motivated move to hinder Domelevo’s efforts in probing potential government misconduct.

Kasu questioned the government’s actions, particularly the inconsistency in treatment between Domelevo, who was compelled to retire at 60, and other officials like Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, who continued in their roles beyond the retirement age.

Highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in governance, Kasu argued that compensating Domelevo would help restore public trust and address lingering doubts about his dismissal. He urged the government to address concerns raised by Ghanaian voters regarding the contentious removal of Domelevo from office.
