GRA Marks International Customs Day


In celebration of International Customs Day, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division organized a health walk on Saturday, January 20, 2023.

The event aimed to raise awareness about the operations of Customs worldwide and foster engagement with traditional and new partners. The walk, starting from the Circle branch through various streets and back to the headquarters opposite the High Court, gathered staff members.

Mr. Eric Kwaku Bonney, Assistant Commissioner in Charge of Headquarters, Preventive, Customs Division, GRA, addressed the media after the health walk.

He highlighted the multifaceted role of Customs, not only in revenue generation but also in ensuring national security. The theme for this year’s International Customs Day was “Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose.”

Assistant Commissioner Bonney emphasized the importance of educating the public on tax matters for better understanding.

Additionally, he discussed the Customs Division’s role in preventing the entry of illicit substances and offensive weapons into the country. The GRA Customs Division collaborates with other security agencies to develop strategies against threats like terrorism.

International Customs Day is observed every year on January 26, celebrating and raising awareness about the crucial role played by Customs authorities in facilitating the smooth movement of goods across borders.
