An Accra High Court has directed the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to return funds seized from Cecilia Dapaah within 72 hours.
The court’s decision came after an application by the OSP to confirm freezing and seizure orders related to the former Minister’s bank accounts and assets. The OSP has withdrawn the application, and the case will now be continued by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Cecilia Dapaah, the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, had faced allegations of corruption, leading to the freezing of her bank accounts and seizure of funds. The Special Prosecutor, after holding the funds for months, decided to drop the application to confirm the seizure and freezing orders. Additionally, the criminal trial against Dapaah for failing to declare her assets has also been dropped.
The decision to withdraw the case was made after in-chamber hearings, and the court has given the OSP 72 hours to release the seized properties and funds to Cecilia Dapaah. The reasons for the withdrawal are not yet known.
