Afropop sensation Mr Eazi has treated fans to the visually stunning video for “Òròkórò,” a track from his 2023 album, “The Evil Genius.” Collaborating with the acclaimed Angelique Kidjo, the regal visual, directed by Thomas Leloup, captures the spiritual essence of the song.
Shot in Paris, the video beautifully blends African spirituality, culture, and tradition, creating a mesmerizing tableau.
Set against the backdrop of Ouidah, Benin, the birthplace of Angelique Kidjo and a city with deep spiritual roots, “Òròkórò” delves into themes of gratitude and spirituality. Sung predominantly in Yoruba, the track expresses appreciation for life’s blessings, and the video amplifies these sentiments through its rich and symbolic imagery.
The concept draws inspiration from the Dahomey Amazons, historical women warriors from Benin, and incorporates elements of ritualistic storytelling. Leloup, the director, weaves together a narrative that positions Angelique Kidjo as a queen surrounded by women, while Mr Eazi takes on the role of a preacher or messenger enveloped by dancers.
“Òròkórò” joins the roster of captivating visuals from “The Evil Genius” album, solidifying Mr Eazi’s reputation for delivering not only sonically compelling music but also visually captivating storytelling through his videos.
