A 79-year-old Nigerian woman has emotionally recounted her ordeal in the United States after being lured with promises of a better life, only to be left exploited and unpaid for months.
According to a viral post shared by user @dammiedammie35 on X (formerly Twitter), the elderly woman traveled to the U.S. expecting a new beginning. Instead, she was made to work tirelessly as a nanny, caring for three children under harsh conditions—without receiving a single dollar in wages for seven whole months.
She detailed how her employer would leave the house as early as 5 a.m. and return as late as 10 p.m., leaving her solely responsible for the children throughout the day. Despite her dedication, her efforts were rewarded with broken promises.
She had been told she would be paid $850 per month, with the possibility of an increase to $1,100 starting June if no complaints were raised. But instead of getting paid, she was suddenly dismissed without compensation.
“He used me and made me suffer,” she shared in tears, expressing her shock at being discarded so easily after months of labor.
The heartbreaking story quickly drew reactions across social media, with many users expressing sympathy and outrage at the treatment she endured. Some comments criticized the exploitation of vulnerable immigrants, especially the elderly, while others called for justice.
This incident has sparked renewed discussions about the mistreatment of domestic workers abroad, especially those who are trafficked or misled into exploitative arrangements under false pretenses.
