Ghanaian musician Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu, widely known as Wanlov the Kubolor, has recounted his mischievous school days, sharing how he frequently disrupted his classmates in junior high. His antics included drawing inappropriate sketches and causing laughter in the classroom, often frustrating teachers who struggled to maintain order. His playful nature and penchant for pranks made him a notorious figure among students.
Raised between Romania and Ghana, Wanlov navigated the challenges of two cultures, an experience that later influenced his creative outlook. After completing his education at Adisadel College, he pursued studies in the United States, experimenting with music that fused traditional Ghanaian rhythms with hip-hop, reggae, afro-pop, and spoken word.
Wanlov first gained widespread recognition with his 2007 debut album Green Card, which reflected his immigrant experiences and return to Ghana. His inventive approach, blending witty storytelling with bilingual lyrics and unconventional beats, helped him stand out in Ghana’s music scene, turning childhood mischief into a foundation for a distinctive musical identity.
