In a major boost for sports development, the government has unveiled plans to build three modern stadia in regions currently without proper sports infrastructure. The announcement came from Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson during the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement to Parliament on November 13, 2025.

Currently, eight regions, including Ahafo, North East, Savannah, Oti, and Western North, lack standard facilities for professional sporting events. Dr Forson confirmed that construction will commence in three of these underserved regions, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering athletic talent nationwide.

The sports agenda for 2026 goes beyond new infrastructure. The Ministry of Sports and Recreation plans to introduce a National Sports College Bill and a Sports University Bill, aiming to formalize sports education and training. Additionally, grassroots development will be strengthened through inter-school, district, and regional competitions to identify and nurture young athletes.

While specific locations for the new stadia remain undisclosed, the projects are expected to provide modern venues for both local and national events, improve access to sports, and elevate Ghana’s competitive profile on the continent.
