Ghana has set aside GH₵150 million to fuel the Black Stars’ journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking one of the largest single investments ever directed at the national team. The announcement came when Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson presented the 2026 national budget to Parliament on November 13, 2025.

The government views this funding as a strategic push to strengthen the country’s sporting sector and reinforce the national team’s competitiveness on the global stage. The money is earmarked for every major component of the World Cup campaign — from training programmes and logistics to the team’s full operational needs throughout the tournament scheduled for the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Beyond the immediate focus on the Black Stars, the package forms part of a broader government drive to elevate sports development nationwide. New initiatives targeting young athletes and expanded infrastructure projects are being rolled out to build a stronger talent pipeline for the future.

Attention now shifts to December 5, when the official World Cup draw in Washington, DC, will determine Ghana’s group opponents. With substantial state backing, the Black Stars head into the global contest with expectations of a far more assertive campaign.
