A cash-in-transit robbery in Rustenburg took a deadly turn earlier today when one of the assailants died during a violent confrontation.
The attack occurred when a group of heavily armed individuals ambushed a Fidelity cash van near a well-known local butchery. Reports indicate the robbers overpowered the security personnel and made off with an undisclosed sum of money.
During the ensuing shootout, one of the attackers sustained a leg injury. Instead of surrendering, the injured suspect reportedly turned the firearm on himself and died at the scene. The remaining members of the gang escaped and are currently being sought by authorities.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) swiftly secured the area and initiated an intensive manhunt for the fugitives. Forensic teams are collecting evidence from the scene, and investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations.
