According to Amadia Shopping Centre’s management, they had grown suspicious of Chef Smith’s claims and requested updates on his application, which he failed to provide. When he went ahead and presented a certificate, they knew they had to act fast to prevent damage to their brand.
By calling the police, Amadia Shopping Centre aimed to halt the press conference and verify the authenticity of the certificate. The police intervened, arresting Chef Smith and seizing the certificate for further investigation.

Subsequently, some media houses and individuals inquired from the world records keeper which indicated that Chef Smith never submitted an application and had presented a fake certificate.
