Kwame Obeng, a 60-year-old employee of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Mamponteng, has tragically drowned in the River Abena Feam at Abira, located in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region. His body was discovered on Wednesday morning, September 10, 2025.
The circumstances surrounding Obeng’s death remain unclear. According to the Abira Chief Linguist, Nana Adu Adjei, the deceased had been recovering from a stroke prior to the incident. Obeng had reportedly told his wife he was visiting the nearby community of Krobo the previous day but did not return home.
A former Assembly Member for Abira, Obeng was married and had one daughter. The chief highlighted that this marks the second time a body has been retrieved from the river, cautioning especially young residents to avoid the river on Tuesdays, traditionally regarded as sacred.
The Antoa Police recovered Obeng’s body and transported it to the mortuary for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
