Afia Pokuaa has responded publicly for the first time after the Manhyia Palace rejected her apology, despite her prolonged efforts to seek forgiveness.
The incident occurred two days ago when Pokuaa, along with Mona Gucci, Kumchacha, and several Media General executives, made a visit to the palace in hopes of mending relations.
However, their appeal was unsuccessful, as Otumfuo’s representative stood firm in the decision to deny her request, effectively barring her from returning to the palace.
During the visit, an elder made a heartfelt plea on her behalf, noting that Pokuaa had been on her knees since her arrival, expressing deep remorse for her actions.
Despite this emotional appeal, the palace was resolute. The representative emphasized that while apologies may be important, they are not always sufficient to resolve certain matters.
He explained that in some cases, individuals must face the consequences of their actions, and in this instance, Pokuaa’s transgression required her to do just that.
The representative’s message was clear, pointing out that disrespect towards Otumfuo, the King of the Ashanti Kingdom, is not taken lightly.
He sternly questioned her audacity, referring to her claim of being from Kwahu and noting the historical separation between Kwahu and the Ashanti Kingdom, despite their shared language.
His remarks underscored the gravity of her actions and the deep cultural significance of the offence.
In what seems to be her final stance on the issue, Pokuaa has indicated no plans to return to the Manhyia Palace for further pleas.
Instead, she took to Facebook to express her gratitude to God for guiding her thus far. She also sought divine comfort during this challenging period, hoping for solace in these trying times as she moves forward from the experience.
This development has sparked discussions about the weight of tradition and respect in Ghanaian culture, especially when it comes to figures of authority like the Otumfuo.
For Afia Pokuaa, the rejection of her apology marks a turning point, leaving her to face the consequences of her actions while leaning on her faith for support.
