The loss of a parent leaves an ache that never truly heals, and for Ghanaian highlife musician Akwaboah Jnr, the absence of his father, the late Akwaboah Snr, continues to weigh heavily on his personal and professional life.
In an interview on Joy Prime TV, the singer revealed how his father was not only a parent but also his greatest mentor and musical guide. According to him, every song he released while his father was alive carried his father’s input, from lyrics to beats.
He explained that producing music without his father’s guidance remains one of the most painful challenges he has faced. Each project, he admitted, reminds him of the void his father left behind. He cited his recent single, “Obinim,” as one of the works his father would have helped refine if he were still alive.
Despite the lingering grief, Akwaboah said the experience has taught him resilience. Losing his father, he noted, forced him to rely more on his own instincts and decisions in his career. While the pain has not faded, it has toughened him and pushed him to become more self-reliant.
