After her contentious denials on two occasions, Elorm Ababio, also referred to as Ama Governor, has now met the requirements to be called to the bar.
According to a notice released on May 21 by Nana Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, Director of Legal Education, her name is one of approximately 182 people who will be called to the bar on May 31, 2024.
Recall that on November 11, 2022, Ama Governor was summoned to the bar; however, her admission was postponed after a “concerned citizen” petitioned the Council, citing her violation of the Ghana School of Law’s Students Code of Conduct, even though she passed the exams.
According to a copy of the appeal submitted to the GLC by Hajia Siduri, the Ama Governor “should not become a lawyer in Ghana” and lacks “good character,” which is a prerequisite for admission to the bar.
The “concerned citizen” also discussed Ama Governor’s nose piercing and her lesbian sexual orientation.
Ama does not deserve to continue attending the Ghana School of Law or to be admitted to the bar, according to the October 30 appeal.
In 2023, she was once more refused call to the bar due to a component of her public behavior that was deemed unsuitable. The General Legal Council (GLC), the body responsible for regulating legal education and the legal profession in Ghana, cited concerns over her public conduct and social media presence as reasons for their decision as they had monitored her.
