A war of words is brewing between two major professional bodies in Ghana after comments made by Dr. David Tenkorang Twum, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), sparked outrage among farmers.
Dr. Twum reportedly questioned Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh’s grasp of hospital operations, citing his background in farming as a limitation. The remarks didn’t sit well with the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF), which has now issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding a full retraction and public apology.
In a strongly worded statement signed by GNAFF President Michael Tetteh Kwetey and General Secretary Abutu Kapori, the Association condemned the comments as disrespectful and unwarranted. They argued that farmers and fishermen are the backbone of Ghana’s economy and should never be ridiculed or dismissed based on their profession.
GNAFF emphasized that leadership and competence are not defined by one’s career background, and warned that failure to apologize would prompt the Association to take steps to defend the dignity of its members.
