Popular Nigerian cross-dresser Bobrisky has stated that for the first time in his life, he feels truly respected after leaving Nigeria for the United Kingdom.
Speaking about his relocation, Bobrisky revealed that one of the main reasons he left Nigeria was the lack of recognition and acceptance of his identity. According to him, Nigeria’s rigid legal and social system never acknowledged who he truly is, whereas in the UK, he feels valued.
“If I lived in Nigeria for 100 years, they would never put ‘female’ on my passport or driver’s license. But here, I am respected for who I am,” he said.
His remarks come after years of controversy surrounding his gender identity in Nigeria, where he faced criticism, legal threats, and societal rejection.
Bobrisky believes that the UK’s more progressive stance on gender identity allows him to exist freely without fear of persecution or discrimination.
The cross-dresser also criticized Nigerian politicians and celebrities, claiming that they turned their backs on him when he needed them the most.
He noted that despite being widely discussed in the country, the treatment he received was far from supportive.
Bobrisky’s comments have reignited debates about gender recognition and LGBTQ+ rights in Nigeria, with some agreeing that the country remains too conservative, while others continue to oppose his views.
