Controversy Trails Man’s Online Dating Post Weeks Before Wife’s Funeral

A 41-year-old Nigerian man named Ubong Uwak has found himself at the center of a heated online debate after initiating a search for a new partner just weeks before his late wife’s funeral.

On July 9, Ubong made a public post in a Facebook group dedicated to Christian singles, introducing himself as a widower and expressing his desire to connect with a devout woman. His announcement, however, came at a time when arrangements were still being made for the burial of his wife, Glory Ubong Uwak, whose final rites are scheduled to take place on August 1 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The couple had been married since 2020 but had no children. Glory’s cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, adding an air of mystery to the situation.

Just over a week after his matchmaking post, Ubong shared a funeral poster of his late wife on his personal Facebook page, expressing sorrow over her death and describing her passing as painful and unresolved.

The stark contrast between his search for a new partner and his grieving tribute has drawn a wave of criticism from social media users. Many found the timing inappropriate and questioned whether his actions reflected genuine mourning or a lack of emotional attachment. Some commenters even cast doubt on the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death.

While a few sympathized with Ubong’s attempt to move forward, the overwhelming sentiment online has been one of disbelief and outrage over what many view as insensitivity so soon after a personal tragedy.
