The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has raised concerns about the misuse of government-provided tablets in Senior High Schools across Ghana. Reports indicate that some students are accessing inappropriate content, including pornography, instead of using the devices for educational purposes.
Out of the 1.3 million tablets distributed nationwide under a $337 million contract, approximately 980,000 have yet to be fully configured for academic use. This lack of customization has allowed some learners to use the devices for non-academic activities, undermining the government’s initiative to enhance digital learning.
The Ministry is prioritizing corrective measures to ensure that all tablets are restricted to study-related functions. Authorities are expected to implement stricter controls to guarantee that the devices serve their intended educational purpose and prevent further misuse.
