He initially applied for GH¢50,000, presenting evidence of an ongoing project as justification, but the bank approved GH¢46,000. With hopes of building a brighter future abroad, Boateng made the bold move.
However, the reality of life in the US has been nothing like he envisioned. He disclosed that his first few months have been particularly difficult since he cannot legally work until receiving his temporary work permit. For over two months, he has been unable to secure proper employment, surviving largely on the support of friends as his funds quickly dried up.
In the meantime, Boateng has been helping at a Ghanaian restaurant to get by, taking up tasks such as cleaning and mopping floors while waiting for the permit approval, which he says could take up to three months.
