Chef Smith’s recent apology videos have sparked a heated debate among Ghanaians, with some calling for forgiveness and others demanding accountability.
While some social media users praised Chef Smith’s remorseful attitude, others were less impressed.
“Masa masa, you orchestrated this agenda by yourself and even awarded yourself a lavish lifestyle,” said one user.
Another commented, “Your apology seems like a setting, just like the president’s election win.”
Some Ghanaians felt Chef Smith’s deception had wasted opportunities and that his apology was insufficient.
“We don’t have anything against him, but he messed up big time,” said one user.
Others defended him, saying, “Having nationwide recognition is enough; why lie?” and “He deserves to live; every record is a record, even if it’s a scam.”
The controversy has raised questions about accountability and the importance of honesty in public life. As one user asked, “Where are the authorities who were involved in this deceiving scene?”
The debate highlights the divided opinions on Chef Smith’s apology and the impact of his actions on Ghanaian society.
On July 2, 2024, Chef Smith held a press conference to announce his alleged achievement of breaking the world record for the longest cooking marathon. He presented a certificate purporting to be from Guinness World Records as evidence of his feat. However, the celebration was short-lived.
Guinness World Records Limited’s PR Manager, Madalyn Bielfeld, quickly disputed Chef Smith’s claim, stating that the organization had received no application from him.
She confirmed that Alan Fisher of Ireland remains the genuine record holder, having cooked for 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023.
Chef Smith’s attempted deception was exposed, leaving his reputation in question.
