Residents of a local community took matters into their own hands after a group suspected of stealing livestock was intercepted during a dramatic early-morning chase. The suspects had allegedly taken six goats and six sheep and were attempting to escape in a Pregio commercial vehicle when community members spotted them and mobilized.
Eyewitnesses say the pursuit stretched across several neighbouring towns before the group’s escape attempt came to an end. When the vehicle was finally cornered, the crowd managed to seize one of the alleged thieves while the others fled. The captured man was tied to a wall, where he endured more than two hundred lashes from the furious mob.
Law enforcement officers in Adankwame later confirmed that all twelve stolen animals have been retrieved. The police have opened an investigation into the theft and the circumstances surrounding the mob attack.
Authorities have expressed strong disapproval of the violent response, urging residents to hand suspects over to law enforcement rather than resorting to vigilante action.
