Ghanaian gospel musician Broda Sammy has expressed concern over the emotional tone of many contemporary gospel songs, urging artists to focus on celebration rather than sadness.

He highlighted that the genre often produces songs designed to make listeners cry, questioning why this has become the norm.

Broda Sammy compared gospel events to secular music shows, noting that concerts like ‘Rapperholic’ or ‘ShattaFest’ are full of energy and excitement, whereas gospel performances are often somber. He stressed that Christianity, according to scripture, encourages rejoicing, and gospel music should reflect that joy.

He called for a shift in the way gospel music is composed and performed, advocating for tracks that uplift and celebrate rather than dwell on sorrow, ensuring the genre inspires happiness among its audience.
