The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has opened an internal probe into claims that members of its Customs Division task force in the Ashanti Region attempted to extort money from an importer. The officers allegedly intercepted containers they believed were undervalued and demanded a payment the importer considered unjustified.
According to the GRA, the issue is being treated as a matter of urgency, and investigators have begun reviewing the circumstances surrounding the interception and the alleged demand. The Authority has assured its stakeholders that the findings of the inquiry will be made public once the process is complete.
The GRA is also urging traders, importers, and the wider public to promptly report any misconduct involving its officers. It emphasized that maintaining integrity across all operations remains a priority, adding that accountability and fairness are central to its mandate.
