A Nigerian model has sounded the alarm after nearly falling victim to a notorious scammer operating in Abuja, who allegedly targets models with fake job offers, only to steal their phones and vanish without a trace.
The disturbing experience was shared through a series of TikTok videos, where the model recounted how she was lured into what appeared to be a legitimate modeling opportunity. She also included a photo of the alleged fraudster to warn others.
According to her account, the scammer poses as a modeling agent, often reaching out through phones stolen from previous victims. Using these devices, he contacts friends and acquaintances of the stolen phone owners, offering fabricated job opportunities.
The model said her ordeal began when a friend messaged her about a promising modeling gig. Not long after, a stranger initiated contact via WhatsApp, requested her professional photos, and mentioned that a “boss” would get in touch.
She was then directed to a studio, where the man claimed to have a working relationship with the receptionist. He escorted her to a makeup artist, telling her another model would soon arrive. After watching her undergo a full makeover, he led her to a nearby photoshoot location.
But moments after they began shooting, he mysteriously disappeared.
Confused, the makeup artist began searching for him and soon realized he hadn’t paid for her services. When they tried contacting him, his number was unreachable. As panic set in, the artist called the police, who quickly arrived at the scene.
The model was briefly detained until she could explain her side of the story. It was then revealed that the man had likely used the same scam on several unsuspecting women — stealing a phone, posing as an agent, and luring in new victims through their contacts.
The model’s account has since gone viral, with many calling for the man’s arrest and warning others to be cautious of too-good-to-be-true modeling offers, especially from unfamiliar sources.
