A young man known locally as “IGP,” who operates a tricycle (popularly called a pragya), was apprehended in the early hours of Monday while allegedly stealing from a washing bay near the newly built Bogoso Government Hospital.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m., when alert residents reportedly intercepted the suspect during an attempt to cart away items believed to include water tanks and engine parts—objects that have mysteriously disappeared from the area in recent weeks.
Locals claim the young man had long been suspected of orchestrating a string of thefts affecting the washing bay and other nearby properties. He had allegedly been using his pragya as a cover to transport stolen items under the guise of regular work.
Community members, already fed up with repeated cases of missing equipment and property, decided to act when they finally caught him in the act. In a brutal display of mob justice, they stripped the man of his clothes, tied him to a nearby light pole, and subjected him to beatings with makeshift whips.
The violent response highlights growing tensions in the area, as residents express frustration over recurring thefts and what they see as a lack of adequate security or timely intervention from authorities.
