Guinness World Records (GWR) aspirant Afua Asantewaa has responded to the controversy surrounding the special present she received from former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during her record attempt.
Following her recent interview on government support during the event, critics labeled her as ungrateful, questioning her remarks about the gesture.
However, Asantewaa has described the backlash as a misunderstanding of her statement.
She clarified that the medication Dr. Bawumia provided was not an ordinary drug but a specialized treatment meant to restore her strained voice.
She emphasized that the effort he took to import it from overseas demonstrated genuine concern for her well-being, and such a gesture should be appreciated rather than criticized.
According to her, she remains grateful for the financial and moral support she received from both government and private individuals.
She also dismissed false claims that she was gifted a government-issued V8 vehicle, labeling such rumors as deliberate misinformation.
Drawing a comparison to journalist Kofi Adoma’s recent ordeal, she argued that if a top government official had facilitated a medical solution for him, they would have been praised rather than ridiculed.
In her view, contributions toward a person’s health should be valued as much as financial aid.
She concluded by stating that history will remember the former Vice President’s efforts, noting that his role in her journey extended beyond financial contributions to a heartfelt concern for her well-being.
