Kofi Adoma’s GoFundMe Raises Eyebrows as Ibrahim Mahama Offers Full Medical Support

Social media users are raising concerns over a €50,000 GoFundMe campaign launched to support Ghanaian media personality Kofi Adoma Nwawani after he sustained a severe eye injury.

The questions stem from reports that Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama had already pledged to cover the entire cost of Adoma’s eye surgery through his Foundation.

Adoma was injured in December while covering the Kwafie festival and the 25th anniversary of the enstoolment of Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, in Dormaa Ahenkro.

A musketeer reportedly discharged a firearm at close range, causing significant damage to Adoma’s eyes and leaving him partially blind. He is currently undergoing treatment in Dubai.

Despite Mahama’s widely reported offer to cover all medical expenses, a GoFundMe account was created by Oppong Kofi, a Ghanaian based in Brescia, Italy, seeking €50,000. At the time of publication, nearly €5,000 had been raised.

This development has sparked debate online, with many questioning the need for such a large sum when the surgery costs were said to be taken care of. Comments from social media users reflect growing scepticism, with some implying that the fundraiser might be an attempt to collect additional funds unnecessarily.

One user questioned, “So what happened to Ibrahim Mahama’s money?” while another remarked, “They wanna chop more of the regular people’s money too.”

The situation has left many wondering whether the funds are intended for expenses beyond the surgery or if the fundraiser has other motives. As conversations continue, clarity from Adoma’s team may be necessary to address the growing public concerns.
