A romantic gesture meant to celebrate International Girlfriend Day ended in embarrassment for a Nigerian man who allegedly attempted to obtain a phone using a fake bank transfer during a pay-on-delivery transaction.
The incident surfaced online through a widely shared video, where the man was seen being confronted by a group of bystanders. He had reportedly ordered a high-end mobile phone as a surprise gift for his partner, but instead of completing the payment upon delivery, he allegedly tried to deceive the dispatch rider by faking a transaction.
Footage from the scene showed the man being questioned and publicly embarrassed as members of the community gathered around. Accusations flew as those present criticized him for ordering expensive electronics without having the means to pay, effectively placing the delivery agent in a difficult financial position.
The video has since gone viral on social media, sparking conversations about the lengths to which some individuals go to maintain appearances in relationships—even at the risk of legal or social consequences.
