A Nigerian woman has shared a heartbreaking account of how she ended up homeless with her children after a disagreement with her husband over intimacy. The emotional video, posted by a social media user on X (formerly Twitter), has triggered an outpouring of support and debate online.
According to the distraught mother, trouble began after her husband handed her ₦1,000 as the day’s food allowance for her and their five children. Stretching the little money as best she could, she bought sugar and groundnuts so they could manage a simple meal with garri.
Later that evening, as rain poured and exhaustion from the day’s chores overwhelmed her, her husband demanded intimacy. The woman, citing fatigue and hunger, declined.
Her refusal reportedly angered her husband, who immediately gathered her belongings, along with the children’s, and threw them out of the house into the rainy night.
With nowhere to go, the mother and her children were forced to seek shelter in an unfinished building. In the video, she pleaded with viewers not to ignore her pain, stating that she had done nothing wrong.
“I didn’t disobey him, I was just tired. We had no food, and now no roof,” she sobbed, surrounded by scattered belongings.
The online post has since sparked reactions from Nigerians, with many expressing sympathy, while others blamed societal and marital expectations. While some questioned the husband’s actions, others debated the role of duty in marriage, revealing a divide in public opinion on issues of spousal responsibilities, financial hardship, and emotional neglect.
As the clip continues to gain traction online, many are calling for interventions to protect vulnerable women facing similar abuse under the guise of marriage.
