- Richard Kobee, 35, has been arrested for allegedly defrauding over 20 residents of Enyanmaim in Ghana’s Central Region.
- He reportedly collected more than GHC 20,000 under the guise of raising money for his sick mother, only to use the funds to stage an extravagant naming ceremony.
- After promising to repay the victims, he vanished for four months before being tracked down in Takoradi. Kobee is now assisting police with investigations, as more details of his elaborate schemes emerge.
What began as a heartfelt plea for help ended in one of the most outrageous fraud cases Enyanmaim has seen.
Richard Kobee, a 35-year-old resident of the Ajumako Enyanmain Essiam District, is accused of scamming more than 20 people out of over GHC 20,000. His story was simple: he needed money to care for his ailing mother. Moved by compassion, residents contributed generously — only to later discover that the woman was never ill.

Instead, Kobee reportedly used the funds to throw a naming ceremony so extravagant, locals say it rivaled weddings and political rallies. From decor to catering, the event stunned the community — not just for its scale, but for the betrayal behind it.
After promising to repay the money, Kobee disappeared. For four months, he remained in hiding in Takoradi, evading creditors and changing phone numbers. Reports suggest he installed CCTV cameras around his home and locked himself indoors to avoid confrontation.
Reverend Fiifi Michael, a journalist and MC, revealed that he had unknowingly helped facilitate some of the loans. He also alleged that Kobee used multiple identities — including impersonating women — to lure victims into fake relationships and extract money.
Police eventually tracked Kobee down and returned him to Enyanmaim, where victims are now identifying him. He is currently assisting with investigations, and authorities are probing whether he may be linked to other fraudulent schemes.
