Napo's appointment as running mate: Otumfuo shares behind-the-scenes story
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has revealed the behind-the-scenes story of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s appointment as the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking at the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo shared his personal involvement in Napo’s political journey, dating back to his early days as a young politician.
According to Otumfuo, Napo sought his blessing and permission to contest the Manhyia parliamentary seat, which was then held by Hon. Kwame Addo Kufuor.
Otumfuo recalled advising Napo to seek the consent of his grandfather, a move that demonstrated Napo’s respect for tradition and authority.
Otumfuo also disclosed that President Akufo-Addo informed him of his decision to appoint Napo as Education Minister after the 2016 elections and later as Energy Minister after the 2020 elections.
The Asantehene expressed pride in Napo’s achievements in both roles, which ultimately led to his selection as running mate.
He further indicated that he is aware people are describing him as arrogant and urged Napo to prove his critics wrong as he has always known him to be very humble.
