The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been accused of neglecting the creative arts industry during their tenure in power. Socrate Sarfo, Director for Creative Arts at the National Commission on Culture (NCC), made the damning revelation on UTV’s United Showbiz program monitored by News & Vibes.
According to Sarfo, the industry suffered greatly under the NDC’s leadership, with no significant achievements or support during former President John Mahama’s five-year tenure.
He contrasted this with the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s commitment to the sector, citing ongoing projects like new theatres and a creative arts school in Kumasi as evidence of their support.
Sarfo’s statements have sparked a heated debate, with many in the creative arts industry coming forward to share their own experiences of neglect and disappointment under the NDC’s rule.
The expose has put the NDC on the defensive, with many calling for the party to account for their lack of support for the industry.
It willbe recalled that recently Kumawood actors such as Mercy Asiedu and Kwaku Manu publicly declared their support for the NDC claiming that it had done more for the industry than the NPP had done.
Socrate Sarfo’s comments seems to be a total deviation. The Kumawood actors had indicated that under the NPP govt, they are not given access to even state institutions such as the seat of the president and police stations.
