The legal team of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has criticised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for its recent public handling of the high-profile corruption investigation. According to his lawyer, Frank Davies, the OSP’s press conference announcing impending charges against Ofori-Atta and other former government officials was unnecessary and risked turning serious legal matters into a spectacle.
Davies described the repeated public announcements about his client as excessive and unprofessional, highlighting previous statements from the OSP that he considered over the top. He stressed that Ofori-Atta is prepared to face prosecution in court and urged the Special Prosecutor to focus on the legal process rather than media appearances.
The criticism comes as the OSP confirmed plans to charge Ofori-Atta and several former officials by the end of November 2025 over alleged financial irregularities linked to the Ministry of Finance, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML). The lawyer emphasised that the accused is ready to cooperate fully with the judicial process, dismissing claims of tension or rifts with the Attorney General.
Frank Davies’ remarks underscore growing concerns about the OSP’s approach to managing high-profile cases in the public eye and reflect calls for a more reserved and courtroom-focused handling of sensitive investigations.
