Morgue attendants at Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital refused to receive a heavily decomposed body from Nkontompo on Friday, 14 November 2025, citing the advanced decay and strong odor.
The deceased, a local man known in the community as Uncle Kofi or Alright, was found in his room after a foul stench had spread through the area. Initial attempts to transfer the body to the hospital mortuary were unsuccessful, and it was returned to the community, leaving the corpse exposed and raising public anger.
It was only after police intervention and the involvement of the Metropolitan Environmental Health Office that the body was finally taken to the hospital for proper handling and storage.
Hospital officials clarified that the body had not been prepared according to safety protocols and emphasized that environmental health personnel should have been engaged from the start to manage the highly decomposed remains safely.
