Sally Mann Says King Paluta Doesn’t Qualify for Artist of the Year

Published:

Ghanaian entertainment pundit Sally Mann has sparked fresh controversy with her bold take on the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, claiming that King Paluta should not be considered a serious contender for the prestigious Artist of the Year title.

Instead, she argued that the real competition lies solely between Stonebwoy and King Promise.

In her remarks during a recent interview, Sally Mann explained that while King Paluta has made notable progress, his career still lacks certain fundamental elements needed to clinch such a high-profile award.

According to her, both Stonebwoy and King Promise have consistently met the criteria the awards are based on—ranging from brand strength to fanbase influence and long-term relevance.

She questioned Paluta’s visibility as a brand, stating that he hasn’t yet carved out a strong identity that separates him from the crowd. Additionally, she challenged the depth of his fanbase when compared to the loyal following of the other two frontrunners.

Going even further, Mann proposed that any artist vying for Artist of the Year should have at least five years of industry relevance under their belt before being eligible for such a title—an idea that would automatically disqualify rising stars like King Paluta, whose breakthrough only came within the last two years.

Despite King Paluta’s inclusion in the top three nominees, his chances appear to be shrinking in the eyes of industry gatekeepers.

With King Promise riding a wave of critical acclaim and Stonebwoy’s sustained dominance in Ghanaian music, the final decision at the TGMAs could come down to a head-to-head battle between the two more seasoned performers.
