A burial ceremony in Marenga, located in Bunyala West Ward of Kenya’s Budalang’i Constituency, ended in heartbreak after a young man tragically lost his life in a shocking turn of events.
Emmanuel Makokha, 28, had taken on the role of drummer during the solemn occasion, providing traditional rhythms as the funeral progressed. But the gathering took a horrifying twist when he suddenly collapsed and fell directly into the open grave.
Video footage that has since spread widely shows Makokha losing his balance and slipping into the burial pit, where he struck his head against the casket before landing inside.
Onlookers, including other mourners, rushed in to rescue him, pulling him out in a desperate effort to revive him. Despite their quick response, the injuries he sustained proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
The sudden death stunned the entire community, turning an already sorrowful day into a devastating double loss. The local chief confirmed the incident and noted that the atmosphere quickly turned chaotic as the crowd tried to process what had just happened.
