Ghanaian singer and media personality Afua Asantewaa has had her second Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt for the longest individual singing marathon officially disqualified, following a detailed review by the GWR team.
According to GWR, the attempt was invalidated due to violations of the mandatory rest break policy, which permits five minutes of rest for every hour of continuous singing. The review identified two significant breaches that rendered the entire attempt non-compliant.
The first infraction occurred during the 19th sequence of her performance, where Afua took a 15-minute break at the 23-hour and 25-minute mark—ten minutes longer than allowed.
The second, and more severe, violation took place during the 21st sequence, where she reportedly paused for 105 minutes, despite only earning 10 minutes of rest time under the GWR rules.
In its statement, the GWR team stressed that strict adherence to all guidelines is essential to uphold the integrity and fairness of world record attempts, making it impossible to approve Afua Asantewaa’s bid.
Despite the disappointment, Afua remains upbeat and reflective. In a message to her fans, she shared her appreciation for the widespread support received both locally and internationally throughout her journey.
Calling the experience “challenging yet rewarding,” she acknowledged the personal growth and discovery the record attempts have brought her. Afua also thanked her team, sponsors, and supporters—including the revered Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II—for their unwavering commitment to her dream.
Although this marks her second failed attempt, Afua Asantewaa made it clear that she is not giving up, hinting at future ambitions and continued efforts to reach new milestones on the global stage.
