Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has candidly discussed the challenges she faces in gaining acceptance within the local music industry. In a recent interview with Delay, she admitted that despite years of self-funded effort and dedication, she fears she may never be fully embraced as a favourite among peers and fans.

The singer explained that the success of her hit song “Jeje” featuring Shatta Wale made her confront the reality that recognition might remain elusive. Sista Afia revealed that she has independently financed her career, investing her own money into every project, including high-budget music videos, yet still struggles for acknowledgment.

Sista Afia also suggested that her personal background could be influencing perceptions of her in the industry. Unlike artists whose popularity grew from humble beginnings, she believes her return to Ghana after living abroad may have contributed to doubts about her legitimacy in the local music scene. She noted that some industry observers question why she is pursuing music in Ghana given her foreign experience, making her feel like an outsider despite her talent and hard work.
