A bizarre incident in Mombasa, Kenya, has left locals and social media users stunned after a teenage boy who confessed to stealing livestock suddenly lost his ability to speak—communicating only through goat bleats and chicken clucks.
The boy, identified as Baraka Joseph, was taken into custody by police officers at the Majengo Police Post after concerned residents spotted him behaving unusually in the Majengo Sokoni area.
At the time of his arrest, Baraka was unable to speak, relying instead on written notes to communicate. In one such message, he reportedly admitted to stealing two goats and two chickens from a local resident believed to be of Kamba origin. He also stated he had sold the animals for a total of KSh 4,000.
Investigations revealed that Baraka had recently traveled by bus from Nairobi to Mombasa on June 4, 2025. During the entire trip, witnesses claimed he spoke normally. However, upon arriving in Mombasa, his speech mysteriously disappeared, replaced by uncanny animal sounds—specifically, those of the very animals he had stolen.
The case has gone viral after a video showing his odd behavior surfaced on TikTok, sparking debates and jokes online. While some believe this could be a case of supernatural punishment or spiritual intervention, others are skeptical and suspect it may be a well-crafted act.
As of now, authorities have not provided medical or psychological explanations for the sudden condition, and it’s unclear whether Baraka is receiving any form of treatment or counseling.
The public remains divided—some view it as divine justice, while others believe it could be a psychological breakdown triggered by guilt or fear. Either way, the case continues to grip the attention of both locals and internet users across the region.
