A 19-year-old Nigerian woman has remained hospitalized for over half a year following the birth of her twin children, as mounting medical expenses and lack of support have prevented her release.
The situation began shortly after she delivered the twins, when the man responsible for the pregnancy reportedly disappeared and ceased all contact. Since that time, she has been unable to pay the hospital bills required for discharge.
While recovering from childbirth, the young mother has also had to contend with additional complications. One of her newborns developed an eye condition requiring medication, but the treatment remains out of reach due to financial constraints.
Compounding the difficulty, the woman’s own mother — once seen as a potential source of help — is herself currently receiving hospital care for an undisclosed illness.
Without money, external assistance, or a place to stay after leaving the hospital, the teenager continues to rely on the institution’s goodwill while facing growing uncertainty about her future.
Her case was brought to public attention through a video post online, prompting widespread public concern and commentary. As the story spreads, many have called for intervention to support the stranded mother and her children.
