A horrifying tragedy unfolded at Safari World in Bangkok when a veteran zookeeper, 58-year-old Jian Rangkharasamee, was fatally attacked by lions on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

The incident occurred after Rangkharasamee stepped out of his jeep inside the lion enclosure. Witnesses reported that one lion silently crept up from behind before pouncing on him, with three or four others quickly joining the deadly assault.

Tourists, shocked by the scene, tried to scare the lions away by honking their horns and shouting, but the efforts proved futile. The attack lasted nearly 15 minutes as the animals mauled him in full view of visitors.

Staff eventually reached the scene and rushed Rangkharasamee, who had nearly 30 years of experience caring for lions, to Intrarat Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
