A devastating accident has claimed the life of Cynthia Jonathan, a young graduate of Taraba State University, after a truck lost control and rammed into the Mile 6 Market in Jalingo.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday, June 27, 2025, when a truck transporting shaft sand reportedly suffered a tyre blowout. The sudden malfunction caused the driver to lose control, sending the vehicle careening into the crowded market.
Cynthia, who had been managing her own point-of-sale (POS) business at the time, was inside her shop when the truck struck. She died on the spot, leaving traders and eyewitnesses in shock.
After completing her national youth service two years ago, Cynthia had turned to entrepreneurship, setting up her POS stand within the popular market to earn a living. Her life, full of potential, was cut short in the most unexpected and heartbreaking way.
Her funeral was held the following day, Saturday, June 28, as family and friends mourned the loss of a young woman described by many as hardworking and ambitious.
The accident has since sparked fresh concerns over road safety and vehicle maintenance standards, especially for heavy-duty trucks operating in populated areas.
