Kofi Gabs, a Ghanaian residing in the Netherlands, has launched a scathing critique against Dr. Mensah Otabil, the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), accusing him of hypocrisy and cowardice.
This backlash follows a video shared by Kofi Gabs, featuring Dr. Otabil expressing concern over the rising dollar rate during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration in 2014.
At that time, the cedi was valued at slightly over Ghc 3 to the dollar, and Dr. Otabil warned that the dollar could soar to Ghc 10 if not addressed. However, by the end of the NDC’s tenure, the exchange rate was around Ghc 4 to the dollar.
In stark contrast, under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, the dollar has skyrocketed to more than Ghc 16.
Gabs pointed out that despite this significant devaluation, Dr. Otabil has remained silent, which he attributes to the pastor’s personal connections with key figures in the NPP, including Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, both of whom are also members of his congregation.
Kofi Gabs firmly criticized Dr. Otabil’s perceived lack of accountability, suggesting that his relationships with political elites have compromised his integrity and led to a double standard in his public statements.
Mensa Otabil is a renowned Ghanaian theologian, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur.
He is the visionary founder of International Central Gospel Church, headquartered in Accra, Ghana, with a vast network of local assemblies spanning across Ghana, Europe, the United States, Canada, and other parts of Africa.
Additionally, he serves as the senior pastor of Christ Temple, a ministry under the International Central Gospel Church umbrella. Otabil’s leadership extends to his roles as Chancellor of Central University College and CEO of Otabil and Associates, an executive and leadership growth consultancy.
