A shocking incident has left the RCCG Christ Ambassadors Youth Church in Nigeria reeling after a thief was caught on CCTV stealing a phone from a new member.
The footage shows the suspect, wearing a pullover sweater, posing as an usher and approaching the unsuspecting individual.
Under the pretext of helping the new member charge their phone, the suspect snatched the device and made a swift exit, pretending to be deep in prayer.
The church authorities are now seeking the public’s help in identifying and apprehending the perpetrator.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and disbelief, with many questioning how someone could commit such a brazen act of theft in a place of worship. The church community is appealing for justice and urging anyone with information to come forward.
Many are expressing disbelief and outrage on social media over the video shared on social media
“Even if he’s an usher, how can you entrust your phone to a total stranger?” questioned one user.
Another asked, “My question is, how can he pretend to be an usher when no usher recognizes him?”
Some users shared personal experiences and advice, such as “The church is a mixed multitude. Hold your bags tight!” and “Imagine telling someone they stole your phone in the house of the Lord!”
Others offered sympathy and support, saying “Sorry bro, hope you find it” and “That’s why our church announces it: ‘Keep your belongings safe, coz we no hear stories’!”
However, some users also pointed out a crucial security lapse, saying “People spend a lot of money installing cameras but forget to pay someone to monitor them for prompt information.”
